Shaykh Dr Sa'ud al-Shuraim delivering the Friday Sermon in Masjid al-Haram, Makkah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Today, as I completed the Jumu'ah prayer, I found myself reflecting on an important milestone—10 years since Allah first blessed me to stand on the Minbar and deliver my first Khutbah. At the time, I was still a student at Xaverian College, and I could not have imagined the journey that lay ahead. Alhamdulillah, it has been an honour and a responsibility I cherish deeply.
My ultimate inspiration will always be the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه و سلم, whose example guides every step of my life. However, when asked about the figures who inspire me most in our times, my heart turns to Sheikh Dr. Sa’ud Al-Shuraim.
Sheikh Al-Shuraim is not only an esteemed Imam of Masjid al-Haram in Makkah but also a world-renowned scholar, Qari (reciter), and jurist. Known for his profound understanding of the Qur'an, his eloquent Khutbahs, and his distinctive recitation, he has touched the hearts of millions across the globe.
He holds a doctorate in Shari'ah and has taught at the Umm Al-Qura University, in Makkah where he has trained countless students in Islamic jurisprudence and Qur'anic studies. His deep insights, unwavering humility, and impeccable manners make him a role model for those striving to follow the path of knowledge and service to Islam.
The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه و سلم said:
"The scholars are the inheritors of the Prophets, for the Prophets did not leave behind Dinar (Gold) or Dirham (Silver), rather they left behind knowledge. So whoever takes it has taken a great share."
[Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah, At-Tirmidhi, and others]
Sheikh Shuraim exemplifies this inheritance. His wisdom, understanding, and conduct embody the legacy of the Prophets. His Khutbahs from the Ka'bah are among the most emotional and impactful I have ever experienced. They resonate with sincerity and a profound connection to the teachings of the Qur'an and Sunnah.
If you haven’t already, I encourage you to listen to one of his most moving Khutbahs—it is a reminder of the beauty and power of our faith, delivered with a passion that leaves a lasting impression.
May Allah preserve our scholars and allow us to benefit from their knowledge, Ameen.
Please note: As of 2023, Sheikh Dr Sa’ud Al-Shuraim is no longer serving his role as the Imam at Masjid Al-Haram.
