Interview in Lahore, Pakistan – A Comprehensive Discussion on Islamic Finance
During my recent tour of Pakistan, I had the honour of being invited by Youth Matters to their centre in Lahore for an in-depth interview and academic conversation on Islamic Finance and the future of ethical financial systems. Taking place on the final day of my visit, this session was a fitting conclusion—truly saving the most enriching engagement for last. The discussion aimed to provide clarity on how Islamic principles can guide modern financial decision-making and offer sustainable alternatives to conventional economic models.
Throughout the interview, we explored a wide range of essential topics that are shaping global financial discourse today. These included an Introduction to Islamic Finance, an analysis of Capitalism, Socialism, and the Islamic Economic Framework, professional pathways for Muslims working in the banking and finance sector, and a comparison between conventional banking and Islamic banking systems. We also examined the significance of accounting standards and international financial reporting, a subject that often influences the credibility and transparency of Islamic Financial Institutions.
A key part of our conversation focused on sensitive and widely misunderstood areas such as loans, interest (Riba), and their implications for individuals and institutions. We then ventured into emerging financial technologies including cryptocurrency, blockchain, NFTs, and digital assets, discussing both their potential and the Shari’ah concerns surrounding them. To make the discussion practical, we also spoke about dropshipping, modern investment strategies, and the criteria that determine whether financial activities are halal, ethical, and socially responsible.
The full podcast is now available on the Youth Matters platform, offering students, professionals, and researchers an opportunity to deepen their understanding of contemporary Islamic Finance and its role in today’s rapidly evolving digital economy.
Following the recording, I also had a productive meeting with the Youth Matters team to discuss the future of Islamic education, da’wah initiatives, and youth empowerment in Pakistan. I am grateful for their warm hospitality, professionalism, and dedication to creating meaningful learning spaces. I pray that Allah accepts their sincere efforts and grants them success, reward, and steadfastness in both this world and the Hereafter. Ameen.
